Aging has ballooned into a broad field that encompasses everything from nanobiology to social psychology. Along with its advancements, aging’s definition has changed. 

Understanding the perspectives around aging and how aging research has changed is critical to evaluate its limitations. Only by becoming aware of rigid cognitive frameworks and their blind spots can we overcome them. 

Paradigm shifts in any field often involve a cognitive or mental reframe of problems. The orderly assessment of ideas break down. Complexity and uncertainty are uncomfortable, but only by grappling with the fundamentals again, can new and better ideas take hold.
